Cairnpapple Mast

Cairnpapple Hill controls a dominating view over central lowland Scotland from coast to coast. A major ritual site for over 4000 years. In the 19th century the site was completely concealed by trees, then in 1947/48 excavations by Stuart Piggott found a series of ritual monuments from successive prehistoric periods. Aside from 3 burial mounds, cremation sites and Christian era graves were found.
