Pursuit of a Shadow is on until the 5th of July at the Talbot Rice Gallery.

Having never seen Jason Dee‘s work before I was completely won over by the inventive use of projection and the understated subjects.Running Time (2007) puts the viewer at the centre of a spinning roundabout – the films protagonist running round and round, sometimes keeping up, at others going ahead or falling back. Vanishing Point is an uncannily timed exercise in perception, the eye thrown by the simple depth change on the projection surface. Cataract and Dune both combine film with a 3D projection surface to great effect.
The artist’s essay accompanying the works gives a glimpse into the thought process behind the works and some interesting concepts to mull over the next time a set of images take you by surprise. A very enjoyable experience which complements the McLaren exhibition perfectly.
