Iran do Espírito Santo: Aside
12 October 2013 – 16 November 2013
Ingleby Gallery, Edinburgh.

Espírito Santo presents four new gigantic glass sculptures, alongside a series of delicate paintings made directly onto the gallery walls. Both series of work, under the collective title Aside, transform the experience of being in the gallery both by their physical presence, and by offering an altered relationship with light, shade and space.

Both floors of the Ingleby Gallery carry the eye bending minimalist works of Iran do Espírito Santo. The line wall drawings float or appear to cast shadows whilst the glass slabs fold and refold as your eyes find new focus.

Iran do Espírito Santo’s first public work in the United States, Playground, was commissioned by the Public Art Fund, unveiled on the 10 September, the 13-foot square, cast concrete work occupies the centre of Doris C. Freedman Plaza at the entrance to Central Park, New York echoing the facades of nearby buildings, on show until February 2014.
