Duncan Shanks Sketchbooks: The Poetry of Place can be seen at the Hunterian Art Gallery, Glasgow, until the 16th of August 2015.

Duncan Shanks (b. 1937 Airdrie) gifted 106 sketchbooks from the last 55 years (containing 6,500 drawings) to the Hunterian. Shanks studied, and then taught, at the Glasgow School of Art. His wife, Una, is also an artist. They set up home in Davingill House, Crossford, the garden of which features in many of their works.

A book has been published to complement the exhibition showing subjects from the Clyde valley including Davingill, Tinto and Corra Linn.

You can look through the sketchbooks online (although some are exceptionally badly digitised).

This month the Scottish Gallery is showing his “Works on Paper” until the 30th of June.

And the BBC has a slideshow of 21 works.
