In a letter he wrote to a friend Walpole explained an unexpected discovery he had made by reference to a Persian fairy tale, <a title=\"Serendip\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Three_Princes_of_Serendip\" target=\"_blank\">The Three Princes of Serendip<\/a>.
