The Dovecot Studios present GEM – a showcase of jewellery, gem-cutting and contemporary practices from Afghanistan. Originally shown last year in London at the British Council headquarters the exhibition can be seen in Edinburgh from the 3rd of October to the 8th of November 2014.<\/p>\n

Starting with the raw minerals the exhibition details what is available to Afghanistan craft people, how they shape it and combine the material in traditional and modern designs. The British Council commissioned work from Turquoise Mountain<\/a>, an Afghanistan-based organisation established in 2006, and UK designers who have collaborated with them including Pippa Small<\/a>, Hattie Rickards<\/a>, Vicki Sarge<\/a> and Melanie Eddy<\/a>.<\/p>\n
