At its height 2000 people lived in the village to man the ironworks and bellpits. The <a title=\"Wikipeadia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wilsontown_Ironworks\" target=\"_blank\">ironworks<\/a> closed in 1842 and only a few ruined houses and the outline of the bell pits remain, woods and wildlife now colonise the site. Maintained by the <a title=\"Forestry Wilsontown\" href=\"http:\/\/scotland.forestry.gov.uk\/visit\/wilsontown\" target=\"_blank\">Forestry Commission<\/a> with 3 walks signposted with quotes.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;This ironworks brought ruin on my family.
