‘Photography as a starting point for interaction’ – Part 2 – Nothing is Impossible Under the Sun
Alice Myers continued the talk with a presentation of her own work. Shortlisted for the MACK First Book Award her project deals with people trying to migrate through the port of Calais. Getting to know people originating from all over the globe, Myers took photographs with the subjects co-operation and collaboration, collected audio recordings, written text and drawings by her subjects.
Discussing the difficulties of taking photographs of people who do not wish to be documented due to the legalities of their situations, she described the importance of gaining trust but remaining professional. The research was then edited, transcribed and translated where required for an audio/slide projection installation as well as the book.
The book can be viewed as a PDF on her website.
